Dear Valued Customer:
We are pleased to announce that General Cable will be re-entering the U.S. Copper Building Wire business in a geographically-phased approach over the coming months.
As many of you will remember, when General Cable divested the business in 2001, we had a leading position in the U.S. Copper Building Wire market with approximately 20-25% market share. As we re-introduce this product line, it is important we maintain the superior level of service and support you have come to expect from General Cable, so while we are excited to re-enter the business, we are mindful of not over-committing.
We will begin supplying Copper Building Wire product immediately in the Western quarter of the country from our Regional Distribution Center (RDC) in Chino, California. As the year moves on, we plan to have stock late in the third quarter at our RDC located in Lebanon, Indiana, and moving into our New Jersey location by the end of the year. This phased approach is driven by our commitment to have strong fill rates as we begin producing and selling Building Wire products again.
The U.S. Copper Building Wire product line will consist of THHN/THWN-2, including colored feeders. All 8 AWG and larger products will feature General Cable’s LF Low Friction jacket for ease of pulling. We will also carry XHHW-2, TFFN and VNTC. Unlike our product line in 2001, at this time we will not be supplying circuit sized AC and MC armored cable. Later this year, we will review market demand and determine our stocking strategy for NM-B cable for residential applications.
These products can be purchased through our existing General Cable sales force, including many of our current Electrical Manufacturer’s Representatives who wish to carry the General Cable line of Building Wire products. We will update you on who these Representatives are as we move forward with our geographically-phased approach.
